France
lies in the center of Europe and so has both;
Atlantic and Mediterranean regions. It is bordered
by Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland,
Italy and Spain and exhibits a diversity of
climate as you travel the region. The northern
region has more historical monuments and old
tows than the south which is known for its beautiful
sandy beaches and Mediterranean climate. But
even if you plan on basking on these sunny beaches
for your entire holiday, you should spare time
for a few northern towns and cities. No holiday
in France could be complete without a visit
to Paris, with its world famous
Eiffel tower and excellent cuisine. The romance
of the Seine, museums and monuments has to be
seen and experienced. The charming city of Arles
with its Mediterranean climate and typical olive
groves and vineyards has a number of Roman monuments
and unique houses with red barrel-tiled roofs.
On the southern coast, Cannes
beckons the tourist with its sandy beaches and
exclusive restaurants for the rich and famous.
Its Mediterranean climate only enhances its
charm. Biarritz is a wonderful
costal town with sandy beaches and sunny weather.
There’s plenty to see and do here besides
basking in the sun on the beaches and surfing.
Plenty of monuments from the Napoleonic era
can be seen as this was a favourite holiday
home of Napoleon Bonaparte.
The Loire Valley was the home
of French nobility and the Château de
Chambord is an extravagant chateau built by
King François I and the famous double-helix
staircase lies within its walls. The
port of St-Malo along the Emerald coast
offers beautiful beaches and its famous walled
city as wonderful attractions for the tourist.
Sarlat-La-Canéda in
Périgord is a splendid medieval town
with such monuments like the Cathédrale
Saint Sacerdos and a number of prehistoric sites
in its neighbouring valley. Toulouse
is famous for its educational institutions and
fine dining establishments. It is the hub of
technological development and offers some wonderful
18th centaury houses and churches in its historical
old quarter.
